Things we experience in our daily life can affect us in ways we do not realise, and often, at the end of the day, we wonder why our muscles are knotted, or we are experiencing pain in some part of our body.

The tension in muscles and body aches are usually symptoms of stress that our body is internalising.

Other times, we may have medical conditions such as non-specific nerve pain, backache, post-operative scars or even some injury that is bothering us to some degree.

What happens to your body when you get a massage?

A proper massage, done by a qualified massage therapist, can affect all parts of your body, from the innermost to the outermost part of your body.

A good massage can have a beneficial effect on the following:

  • skeleton
  • skin
  • circulatory system
  • lymphatic system
  • muscles
  • digestion
  • endocrine system
  • respiration
  • neurological system

During a massage, your muscles are kneaded, so they become warm and soften, relaxing you.  Getting a good massage not only reduces stress and puts you in a better mood, but it can also treat certain disorders and help heal post-operative scar tissue and prevent sports injuries if done before and after a game.

Leading Chinese massage therapist provides relaxation and relief from pain with the help of traditional techniques.

When opting to get a massage for any reason, it is important to verify the skills of the therapist you choose.

Frequently Asked Questions

What should I expect after a massage?

Right after your massage, you should be in a deep state of relaxation with lowered blood pressure while your muscles could be slightly sore muscles for 24 – 48 post-massage. This is normal and expected as your muscles are manipulated to release any tension you may be holding in them and blood flows easily through your body.

Post-massage, we recommend hydrating your body with water or herbal teas and taking some time for yourself to meditate, relax at home with a book or take a warm bath and avoid caffeine.

You should allow your body to adjust and recover, which is why you should book a massage at the end of a weekday or on a weekend.

Is Wayne Massage a spa?

Wayne massage is a remedial and Chinese massage centre where we offer innovative services in massages, acupuncture, cupping therapy and other wellness treatments that can help you live a stress-free, healthier life.

Which areas do you serve?

We have three conveniently located centres that serve our Townhall, Ultimo and Pitt Street clients and people who live and work in their surrounding suburbs based all around Sydney CBD.

You can check the complete list of suburbs here.

Does massage hurt?

Most massages do not hurt. However, some people complain of soreness after getting a deep tissue massage or a sports massage. This soreness is short-lived and can be managed easily with a painkiller.

What is acupuncture?

Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese medicine treatment that involves very fine needles inserted in the skin at specific points along the “energy pathways” to treat physical and mental ailments.

Do I need to undress for a massage?

No, you don’t. We offer massages that can be done over clothes if you so desire. Just speak to your massage therapist about your concerns and preferences, and we will accommodate them, so you get a truly relaxing experience.

I have underlying medical conditions, can I get a massage?

Different types of massages are proven to help medical conditions like headaches, high blood pressure and many others.

However, if you have recently broken bones or sprained joints or have undergone an operation, you must speak to your doctor about the type of massage you can get and let us know, so we make sure we give the appropriate massage for your condition.

Are you a well-reputed massage centre?

Wayne Zheng opened Wayne Massage in 2009 and since then has built a reputation as a highly qualified and skilled massage therapist who counts celebrities, politicians, businessmen and even doctors among his clients!

Do you offer home services?

At Wayne Massage, we are sensitive to our clients’ requirements and understand that some have limited mobility, certain kinds of anxiety or are just too busy to take time out to visit any of our centres.

We are happy to offer 24-hour mobile massages where our therapists come to you at times that suit you.

How do I manage sore muscles after a massage?

After getting a massage, it is very common to experience sore muscles, especially if it is your first one or you’re getting one after a long time.

You can get relief from the soreness by stretching gently, applying a warm or cold compress to more uncomfortable spots and taking painkillers. The soreness should subside within 48 hours as your muscles heal. In case you continue to experience soreness, please let us know.

Do you offer traditional Thai massage?

Wayne massage offers traditional Chinese medicine treatments.

Apart from massages, what other treatments do you offer?

At Wayne massage, we offer various kinds of massages, reflexology, dry needling and acupuncture treatments.

Can I gift a massage to someone?

Yes, you can! We offer gift vouchers for all services and any amount you’d prefer.

You can make a deposit into our account and give us details of the recipient so we can let them know about the treat in store for them, or you could purchase a gift voucher and present it yourself.

I’m ticklish; how can I get a massage?

Please let your friendly, qualified massage therapist know about your ticklish spots so they apply just enough pressure not to tickle. If you are very sensitive, they can avoid the sensitive spots altogether.

How much do your services cost?

We have a pricing calculator on our website that you can use to see how much our services cost.

We accept cash, credit cards, and HICAPS and offer health fund rebates. We also offer a discount when bookings are made on our app. Every booking through the app also gets points that can then be redeemed for a massage.

Can I get a pre-and post-natal massage?

We do offer pre-and post-natal massages, but it is strongly advised you get approval for this from your healthcare provider(s), who could be one or more of the following:

  • GP
  • Obstetrician
  • Doula
  • Mid-wife
  • Maternal and child-care nurse

How often can I get a massage?

The frequency of getting a massage depends on the reason you are getting a massage. Depending on the treatment, you can get one as frequently as once a week, monthly or bi-monthly.

We recommend you maintain the schedule suggested by your massage therapist in order to get the best results, as one or two massages may not be enough to make a difference to your condition.

Do you accommodate allergies?

At Wayne Massage, we are sensitive to our patient’s health and comfort. If you have allergies, we urge you to let us know at the time of booking your appointment so our therapists can ensure they do not use any products that can trigger a reaction.

How should I prepare for a massage?

Before coming to a massage we strongly recommend you avoid a full stomach, it will only make you uncomfortable when your therapist is applying pressure. However, you should eat a light snack, such as some fruit before the massage so you avoid getting lightheaded when you rise from the massage table.

Wear loose fitting clothes that are comfortable and easy to take off or on. Don’t wear heels as your muscles will be loose and can get injured when your posture is not natural.

Do you use oils and lotions for massage?

Yes, we do. Using an oil or lotion reduces friction and can make the massage more enjoyable for you.

If preferred, we can also use CBD oil.

However, if you are allergic to certain ingredients in oils or lotions or would prefer a dry massage, please let us know when booking your appointment so we can accommodate your requirement.
